The Ole Five and Dime stores

When I was a little kid , the only K Mart store around was in Spencer , and we never went to Spencer much , my parents did most their shopping in Estherville ( It was closer ) , and Estherville didn't have any main store change , mostly all they had was Five and Dime stores along main street and that's where I remember getting most my toys as a kid , the stores were never all that big , but they always had a good selection of plastic models and hot wheels and that's where I got my G.I.Joe stuff

Plus they always had these diners in them

It wasn't really till I was a little older and had friends with driver license did I start going to Spencer and the K-Mart there , ( Spencer was a bigger town and where we would cruise Grand for chicks.........lol ( AKA American Graffiti )

Although at the time , and for it's time , the K-Mart was kinda old and small compared to big city folks K-Marts , and then they finally built a new larger modern K-Mart and shortly after that , Wal-Mart moved in right next door , and within a year , K-Mart closed

But I do miss those old ma and pa Five and Dime stores
