My all time favorite sitcoms

February 13, 2012 03:19PM
These will be listed in no particular order… IOW, not sorted by my ratings. I'm using a 'list' and I'll simply note them as I read them.

TWO categories, however.. pre-1970 and post-1970.

As you all know, I don't watch a lot of TV and haven't since the 60's. Once I started college I got out of TV viewing and never really got back into it, EXCEPT for sports, of course. But that isn't to say I didn't see a lot of the TV shows since 1970, I did… mostly in syndication, true… but a few I at least made an attempt to watch live, (or when originally broadcast).

Post 1970:
Soap - for 'out loud' and often raucaus laughter this one probably tops my list. Liked other's better… but this one made me laugh hardest.
WKRP In Cinncinnati
Newhart - BOTH his sitcoms
Night Court
Sanford & Son
Married With Children - EXCELLENT episodes and some very bad ones.
Mary Tyler Moore - very good writing.
Everybody Love Raymond… best 'characters' ever in a sitcom.
Happy Days - but only the first couple of years. Once Fonzie took over I lost interest.
Taxi - and all time best
Cheers - great characters - waned at the end but held my interest.
M*A*S*H - still love it to this day, and watch it almost daily.
All In The Family
The Jefferson's - really liked this show, not really 'loved', and I'm not sure why.. watched it LOT however.
Petticoat Junction - I'm including this one because I saw nearly every episode, but it never struck me as particularly good. Go figure.

I love Lucy
Green Acres
Mister Ed
The Adams Family
The Munsters
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet
The Dick Van Dyke Show - LOVED this one.
The Honeymooners - SHOCKED that this isn't more popular in syndication today. It's brilliant.
The Beverly Hillbillies - this actually stems the categories - 1962-71
Gilligan's Island
I Dream of Jeannie - Barbara Eden… drop dead gorgeous.
Bewitched - liked this show, not sure why.
Leave it to Beaver
The Andy Griffith Show - I'm not rating these, but if I did, this one would by vying for top honors.
Doby Gillis

Some notable exception for me, sitcoms that other's would rate VERY high but just didn't cut it for me.

The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air
My Favorite Martian
Chico and the Man

A few I watched occasionally but were very "so-so" to me:

That Girl
The Monkees
The Donna Reed Show
Bosom Buddies
My Three Sons
Who's The Boss
3rd Rock From The Sun
The Love Boat - not sure it fits in this topic

And Finally a few that I saw… and did NOT like… not saying 'hated' here, but did not like them:
Diff'rent Strokes
Family Ties
What's Happening!
Gomer Pyle
Mad About You
