I'm a big Bradford guy but he really is the key to the whole thing. If you end up with an average QB and an average team out of all of it it is a net fail IMO. IF Bradford can become the upper echelon QB I think he is capable of then it is a steal of a trade regardless of what RG III does (and I think he is a fine player FWIW).by F.Mulder - The Original HERD
QuoteScRAM Once he has a couple big games the other teams will have to game plan for him & it'll open things up for other players, whether it be a size mismatch for Quick or Cook, or a speed mismatch for Givens, should also make the misdirection type plays even more effective. This is exactly right. Once teams begin to have to account for Austin by providing extra help it only makes other pby F.Mulder - The Original HERD
I worry about a lot of things but overall I worry about the Safety and LB position on Defense. I don't care how they spin Mcleod and Daniels, they are weak there (I'm not a McDonald fan FWIW). LB has 3 guys at best and the rest are borderline cast-offs. I used to like Hull but it is obvious to me he is overmatched at the NFL level. We shouldn't get too caught up in pre-OTA rankings or opinions. I can look at things two ways: Offensively: Polly Anna- Bradford in his second year of same Offense and ready to take next step. Speed on the outside in Givens and Austin, as well as at the TE in Cook. On paper a solid OL with a stud LOT, a solid LOT playing ROT, a vet center, a vet guard, and 3-4 potential guards fighting iby F.Mulder - The Original HERD
You know, I can see why some might want some type of vet FA WR type with so many young WRs but frankly I'd rather let them cut their teeth in regular action and question how much a cast-off has to offer (see S. Smith). In some ways Pettis is a vet (scary I know) but guys like Givens and Quick have faced live bullets. The coaching staff is excellent and they know, and will continue to develop Giby F.Mulder - The Original HERD
This is how I view the draft and "offseason" in general terms as far as team-builiding and hopefully excellence both in the near and long-term: 1) at some point you need to hit some homeruns via FA or the Draft. I don't care whether they are #1 overall picks, high-priced FAs or some under the radar UDFA that becomes a super star. The league is filled with solid teams and the differby F.Mulder - The Original HERD
No way Quick jumps from a pure raw project with numbers to support it last year, to a top WR this year. With that said, I expect a 45-55 type season from him and that is not bad. IF he can do that he is showing he COULD become that WR. If not, he looks like another tease.by F.Mulder - The Original HERD
I think a team struggling for consitency and good drafts and player development only get so many "projects" IMO. IF Jenkins keeps his nose clean he is a legit top CB, T. Johnson is a solid player, Givens also. With that said, they gambled on Quick and this year will tell us a lot. You don't keep going to the well thinking you are smarter than every other GM/Scout. Hi Kevin- Thanks so much for doing these and other Q and A's. You really score points with a lot of us Ram fans for your explanations and willingness to respond to our questions. My question is regarding Bradford's contract; can his contract be re-done to result in additional cap savings down the road? QuoteMDAlum the 2013 RB class has a lot of talent, and we should be able to get a quality back on day 2. Because next year, the RB class is much weaker. I agree with this. The only way I want Lacy is if he slides into the 2nd AND the Rams have him as a must-take player. Feel the same about Franklin; like him a lot but no way in the 1st. Good thread and responses Not that anyone asked but here are a few of my takes: Jackson-I grew to really appreciate him as a player and teammate as time went on. I didn't care for him as a teammate early on. With that said, he IS on the downside of his career. he wants and deserves a chance for an immediate chance to win a championship and I'm sure he would admit that the chance of playiby F.Mulder - The Original HERD
I'm not too big on the Long thing. It would easily be our only major FA signing, he has struggled over the past year or so, and I'm not sure he is at the elite level that would command the type of money he'll likely get paid. USUALLY the highest paid FAs are often the biggest busts. I'd much rather draft a 1-2nd round OL and a developmental one later and let Paul B coach them up and add the playby F.Mulder - The Original HERD
I like him more at 22 but get what you are saying about having to sweat it out between 16 and 22 if he isn't picked by 16. It could be a situation on how they value him vs available OL. IF a L. Johnson, Warmack, or some very highly rated OL is there and they feel they are studs at that position they may go that route and take their chances on Austin being there or have a plan B they are comfortby F.Mulder - The Original HERD
I use it as part of increasing my general knowledge about certain players and positional groups. There are far too many people and posters who know each player in greater detail and are also college football junkies. I am neither. Quoteroman18 Anyone picked up this early IMO is just a feeler....he may be on the team he may not. IMO this is just a pickup in the off season that may make it or may be dumped.....don't get excited either way in this move......it could be to replace either Gibson, or DA.....if they decide to leave. Moves made at this time of the year mean IMO nothing.....just added people/talent to the rosby F.Mulder - The Original HERD
I agree. Assuming nothing major done in FA except trying to keep guys like DA, Hayes, Turner?, they need to come out of this draft with at least 3 major contributors IMO. I think they need to come out of this with a starting safety (assuming that they use one of their existing one's for the other position (anyone but Dahl)), a starting OT or OG (one starting OL), and at worst a situational/highlby F.Mulder - The Original HERD

Thanks S- I really do understand what you, and some others are saying, and I am saying that I simply don't have enough evidence yet to make my final determination about him. There will be a concerted effort to upgrade the offense next year via OL, WR, obviously QB play, play calling etc. I hate to be a "wait til next year" kind of poster but we as Ram fans will know a lot more about this QB next year and the following year. Quotetheohall Refer to how New England thrashed the Rams LBs. LBing was also a weak link in the Green Bay game. If the Rams want to beat the elite offenses, underneath play in coverage by the LBs has to improve. I would give anything for a LB who could run, cover a TE, rush of the edge. It's a decent starting OL with a lot of question marks and similar players in depth positions (which beats not having any depth like in the past). Wells is a smart, over-achiever. I think he'll be the qb of the OL for the next few years. Dahl is a mauler who is solid. Saffold is solid but questions remain about his health and ability to play at a consistent high level. My feeling on Quick is that we will have a greater idea of where he is with a full NFL offseason to work on the mental and physical requirements to be a productive NFL WR. I assure you Fisher and Co will give him the feedback Quick needs to make the next step and it will be in Quick's hands to achieve it or not. I don't think he is there yet and I think he'd be the first to say it as would Fisher. I am encouraged that he is progressing forward and as long he keeps improving on the areas of weakness and hopefully strengthens the areas he is already solid in than I'm ok with that. Maybe I'll come off as an "apologist" but they need another WR, a ROT, and possibly another TE. Add that to the seby F.Mulder - The Original HERD
I think it is a combination of all factors as well. There have been times when a WR had a step or even more and had to adjust to simply catching the ball vs getting the ball in stride and making something bigger happen. I swear when that happens it is almost like Bradford can't believe they are so open and almost babies the ball to them.
